Precision-driven omics technologies are crucial for addressing agricultural challenges, as emphasised by experts at a national symposium.

Precision-driven technologies like omics must be increasingly integrated into agricultural research to effectively respond to challenges posed by climate change, environmental stress, and rising food demand, said Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
He was delivering the inaugural address at the national symposium on recent trends in omics in plant biology, organised by the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics Facility of the Indian Institute of Spices Research.
Singh pointed out the need to invest more in advanced scientific fields such as genomics, genome editing, and computational biology alongside traditional agricultural sciences. “It is through precise and high-throughput technologies like omics that we can address critical issues in agriculture, including reduced crop productivity and changing environmental conditions,” he said.
IISR Director R. Dinesh noted the growing significance of integrative approaches and said that the institute is looking beyond traditional research areas for delivering impactful technologies.
Sudhakar Pandey, Assistant Director General (ICAR) stressed the importance of collaborative research in accelerating innovation in the field.
