The railway is removing the geo-fencing for the convenience of passengers. The outer limit for the same has been reportedly removed from the mobile apps. However the internal limit of geo-fencing remains unchanged which means passengers will be allowed to book tickets from outside only. Earlier the geo-fencing distance for booking tickets for such tickets was 50 kilometers from the mobile location.

The Indian Railways is also facilitating the booking of UTS tickets via mobile phones with a stable internet connection. This would shrink the queue for unreserved tickets. Per the Indian Railways, the UTS mobile app has received rave reviews from frequent travelers who regularly book unreserved tickets or take local train trips. Currently the app is used by only 25% of commuters. With geo-fencing restrictions removed, this figure is bound to grow with many embracing the app. The ultimate aim of the UTS app is reduced queues and utmost convenience for passengers with digitization. Hope it doesn’t crash at rush hours.
