After two rounds of monthly reductions, oil companies have now raised the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The cost of ATF now has been raised by 3% to Rs 1,318 per kiloliter, after hiking last month by Rs 2,941.5. The ATF prices in the metros are as follows now: Rs 95,231.49 in Chennai, Rs 94,551.63 in Kolkata, Rs 91,856.84 in Delhi, and Rs 85,861.02 in Mumbai. The revised rate is effective from December 1, and is bound to affect the prices of flight tickets at the peak of holiday season. Fuel expenses incur the second largest expense of operating any flight, after the labor costs, that hurts the profit for airlines. Airlines try to make up for it by adjusting the ticket prices.

Government oil companies including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) revise cooking gas prices and aviation jet fuels every first of every month. Commercial LPG rates have been hiked five times in a row, despite the government’s claim of getting the best deal from Moscow. Restaurants and hotels now have to buy rather expensive LPG in the metros where the rates are as high as Rs 1,771 in Mumbai, Rs 1,980 in Chennai, Rs 1,927 in Kolkata, and Rs 1818.50 in Delhi. Thankfully the rates of domestic LPG haven’t changed drastically.

The price hike is in sync with the global trend, even as prices for petrol and diesel remain unchanged for now.
